Meditation is like drawing the bow back.
We draw back the bow to orient it’s trajectory.
We turn our awareness inward to orient our life’s trajectory.

The solstice was like this for me. I’ve spent years doing 108 surya namaskar on the solstice, ushering in the light with the tapas of my practice, but this year it was different. I’ve always loved doing the 108 surya namaskar (especially after day 2 – my whole being LOVES it). This year though, the calling was strong and it has been more about turning inward and sitting in the darkness; sitting WITH the darkness. After Dan and Miles went to bed last night I searched for a candle, thinking I should light a candle as an offering to the light. Funny thing was I couldn’t find one. And one thing I’ve learned over the years is to “go with it”. It meant there was no need for the candle. It was clear “sit with the light inside you – it’s enough”. What that meant was…

I am enough.

When we wear many hats, involve ourselves in projects, work long hours, spend time caretaking our family members and get pulled into the current of “busyness” the turning inward practices are oftentimes the ones to go first. But without really creating that time for ourselves it’s easy to live from the surface of things. The domain of great distraction and being pulled in many directions. Oftentimes when we sit with ourselves we are able to untangle what is ours and what is distraction, so that when we open our eyes and engage with the world we are moving from the deepest place possible in that moment.

It is in the Silence that vibrates, in the treasured jewel of the Self, that all assembles itself fundamentally and deeply.  A new year of life, a new and wider set of life possibilities are about to emerge and be born in the dawning Light!
– Paul Muller-Ortega

When we settle into who we are at a much deeper level the idea and sentiment of “being enough” really isn’t so OUT there, it’s actually IN there. It’s in the consistency of sitting with ourselves day after day and embracing both the light and the dark and the rainbow of sensations that surface and present themselves. It’s being comfortable waiting. It’s being ok with nothing and everything happening at the same time. It’s pulling the bow back, which is not always an easy act. It takes strength, precision and patience – ask any archer.

When we do take the time to pull the bow back we build strength, patience, precision and we orient our life’s trajectory to our deepest and most authentic truth.

And then we let go.

And the next day we do the same. Each day we re-orient so that we end up in the vicinity of our aim.
